The White House has announced that it has fired the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Susan Monarez, after she refused to resign on Wednesday.

In a statement, it was stated that this “was not aligned with the President's agenda” and that she was resigned from the Health Agency.

The US Health Department previously announced the departure of Dr. Monarez, which led to a statement from its lawyers, who said it was not informed about the dismissal and would not resign.

They said that it was targeted for the refusal “to approve unstable and unstoppable directives and to dismiss dedicated health experts” and accused the secretary of health, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., of “using public health as a weapon.”

“As the statement of her lawyer shows very clearly, Susan Monarez is not aligned with the President's agenda,” the White House said on Wednesday, adding that it was resigned as director.

Dr. Monarez, a scientist with extensive experience in the federal government, was nominated by President Donald Trump to lead the CDC and was confirmed in the Senate in July, by a vote on party criteria.

Her nomination came after Trump withdrew his first choice, former Republican Congressman Dave Weldon, who had been criticized for his opinions about vaccines and autism.

Almost immediately after the departure of Dr. Monarez was announced by the Health Department, at least three high -ranking leaders of the CDC resigned from the agency.

Among them was the medical director Debra Houry, who warned of the “misinformation” related to vaccines in a letter seen by the American partner of the BBC, CBS News. She also pleaded against the agency's budget discounts.

Daniel Jernigan, who ran the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases, also resigned, invoking the “current context of the department”.

The head of the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, Daskalakis Demetre, also said that it can no longer serve “due to the continuous use of public health as a weapon.”

There is also information, including from NBC News, according to which Dr. Jennifer Layden, the director of the Data, Surveillance and Public Health Technology, has resigned.

The exodus comes in the context in which health experts express their concern about the approach of the agency in terms of immunizations under Kennedy's leadership, a skeptic about vaccines.

On Wednesday, the Administration for Food and Medicines (FDA) has approved new Covid vaccines that will be available for all seniors, but younger adults and children without pre -existing conditions will be excluded.

“The authorizations for use in case of emergency for Covid vaccines are now canceled,” Kennedy wrote on X.

Earlier this month, current and former employees of the Agency wrote an open letter accusing Kennedy of feeding violence against health workers with his anti-vaccination rhetoric.
