The local hospital informed 11 people injured in the shooting. The state of two injured children is assessed as critical – the police said.

Jacob Frey, the mayor of Minneapolis, announced that two children were killed during the prayer in the church. Earlier, the media reported that the shooting took place at school.

The police said that the fire was opened during the mass during the first week of the school year. The attacker fired from the outside, through the windows of the church. Fatal victims are children aged eight and 10 years old.

“During the mass, an armed man came from the outside of the building and began to shoot through the windows of the church towards children sitting on benches,” said police commander Brian O'Hara. He assessed that it was a deliberate attack of violence against innocent children and other faithful.

The attacker had three weapons with him: a rifle, a pistol and a shotgun. According to the police, he used all of them. It is not known what his motive was. The services maintain that he acted alone. The perpetrator committed suicide in the parking lot at the church.
