Romanian Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu has warned that the surge in Russian attacks on Ukraine is increasing security risks within Romania. Speaking on Antena 3 on Friday evening, she addressed questions regarding any ongoing diplomatic protests against Russia following recent drone incidents.
“We have a set of measures prepared, and I have discussed this with the president in recent days. Unfortunately, as you can see, the increased volume of attacks from Russia against Ukraine is reflected in the rising security risks in Romania. This means we will likely see a higher frequency of drone debris, for example. Defense radars are consistently detecting a heightened volume very close to our borders, and we are ready to respond both militarily and diplomatically to protect our citizens’ safety,” Țoiu stated.
Comments on Neutralized Drone in Neptun Deep Area
She praised the military personnel who neutralized an explosive-laden marine drone detected near the Neptun Deep platform.
“We know it is not a Ukrainian drone, and thanks to a direct communication channel between defense ministries, we receive instant responses regarding the data each possesses. We have no indications of intent from the Russian Federation, but we believe that Russia must take responsibility for the heightened security risks in the Black Sea,” Țoiu explained.
She emphasized the significance of Black Sea ports for international trade.
“When risks in the Black Sea rise and port operations are diminished, this immediately impacts grain prices in Africa and the Middle East. We are monitoring this situation closely. This week, we have already begun to observe a rise in grain prices there due to reduced transport volumes from Black Sea ports, and I am not referring only to Romania,” the Romanian Foreign Minister added.
