Part of CFR Călatori trains will no longer run from September 1, due to the debts that the passenger operator has against the CFR SA infrastructure manager, wrote the railway club, citing from a notification issued by CFR SA. Also on Monday, CFR Călaturi gave a statement saying that “there is no risk of prohibition of traffic operated by CFR Călaturi on the national network under the administration of CFR SA”.

The staggering of the debts to pay the fee for the use of infrastructure (TUI) accumulated by CFR Călatori and Transferoviar is the only solution for these two companies to pay the railway infrastructure administrator, said the president of the Railway Reform Authority, Mihai Barbu, quoted by Agerpres.

The railway club wrote that CFR SA sent a notification to CFR Călaturi, which is informed to the general director Traian Preoteasa that he has unpaid invoices worth 41.4 million lei, the equivalent of almost 8.2 million euros to pay TUI.

In the cited notification it was said that CFR Călatori trains will receive traffic ban on the Romanian railway network, due to the debts that the state rail operator accumulated to pay the tariff for the use of infrastructure (TUI). Some of the Regio trains may not travel since September 1, and at Interregio the restriction would apply from October 1, wrote the cited publication.

CFR Călaturi issued a press release saying that discussions were held with CFR SA and the authority for railway reform, the state company claiming that solutions have been found, and trains will run according to the plan,

CFR Călaturi also said that the travel facilities for different social categories are not settled at the level of the performance made by CFR Călaturi, “and the value of the compensation is inferior to the values that would result from the application of the provisions of the public service contract”.

What CFR Călaturi said

Regarding the articles published today, August 25 in the mass media regarding the possible prohibition of traffic of CFR Călaturi on the railway network starting September 1, 2025, we make the following details:

Following the meeting at the headquarters of the Authority for Railway Reform (ARF), attended by the representatives of ARF and those of CFR Călatori and CFR SA, the ways were identified in which, with the support of all those involved, the existing impediments were exceeded, so that there is no risk of the traffic prohibition of some trains operated by the CFR Călaturi.

The only feasible solution belongs to the staggering of the debts.

The staggering of debts to pay the tax use tax (TUI) accumulated by CFR Călatori and Transferoviar is the only solution for resolving the crisis, said the president of the Railway Reform Authority, Mihai Barbu.

“We had a meeting in the morning with CFR Călatori, Transferoviar, CFR SA and electrification to discuss this topic and find solutions, so that they will not stop trains in Romania and will surely be found. Transferoviar to pay CFR SA that fee for use of the infrastructure-TUI-staggered and pays its debts.

Asked if the deadline for payment was set, the head of the ARF replied: “He remained to discuss among themselves. CFR SA '.
