Sasu Salin wants to become a champion, in Romania, with U-BT Cluj

– Sasu, we are glad to know you. What is your goal with U-BT Cluj this season?
– (laughs) to win. First of all, let's conquer the Romanian championship. This is the only goal we have now. We take it step by step, it was not easy this season, but I think we have improved our situation and we started to look much better.

– You played in Spain for almost a decade, you conquered trophies in Slovenia. How do you think the League in Romania?
– The level is very good. Clubs bring good players and is very competitive. There are no easy matches, as in any championship. Even if today they think of Cluj always as a team that we always have to defeat, it is not easy and we have to show this on the field. That was the mentality that we must have fixed in the head. In each match we have to play as best as possible to win.

9The won champion has U-BT Cluj, of which four consecutive. Plus 7 Cups and 4 Super Cups

How Sasu Salin feels in Romania: “We like nature, the weather resembles Cluj with what we have in Finland”

– Are there big differences between the Spanish and the Romanian championship?
– Well, of course, in Spain they are big names and it is the best national league, I would say, in Europe. The level is higher and I think that everyone's goal is to play there if the opportunity arises. But, as I said, Romania has a very good champion and even if it is not said to be one of the best, it is a hard champion and it is not easy to win.

– How do you feel in Cluj, in Romania?
– First of all, on the ground it was, it is, wonderful. The fans in Cluj are great. Of course, it was a little different in Eurocup, when the room was full at every match. Now, in the Romanian League, they still come and make a great noise. So I am very proud to represent Cluj and play for these fans. And as a city, I like it very much. My family feels very good here. Children go to school, kindergarten and, you know, they really like it. So everything is easier.

– I dialoged with many foreigners from Romania and they appreciated Cluj and Romania as safe places.
– Yes, I never had a problem. (smiles) Well, my wife escaped her purse at once and I didn't find her. But nothing else, nothing else. It was fine. (smiles tangled) Someone stole it or … well, she escaped it, lost it. This was an unfortunate case. But then I don't know.

“And he didn't find anymore?”
– No. I checked the iPhone, online, appeared to be in Florești. So if someone follows us and see this, who took it, please bring it! (laughs again).

– Have you had other situations in Cluj?
– No, it was great. As I said, it's great. We really liked the city. We like nature. We are from Finland, of course, so that helps. The weather looks more like what we have there. It was very nice. I have nothing to say anything bad.

Sasu Salin wants to try the belly soup after the end of the championship

– Have you had time, you and your family, to visit other cities apart from matches?
– I was only here, through Cluj. I was … where did I have been? Just here, not too far. Not too far with children, they are still so young. But, you know, it was very pleasant. As I said, the beautiful nature is amazing.

– What do you like most about Romanians so far?
“Oh, what do I like the most?” I think they are pretty friendly. And the culture is very beautiful. I never had any problems with anyone. Maybe it helps me that we are always smiling, and I, and the Romanians, is easier to approach.

– Do you like Romanian food, have you tried something?
“Yes, I tried a few.” I haven't tried that yet, the cow's belly soup. Yes, I think this is. I was told I have to try, even if it's hard food. I think at the end of the season. I noticed that there are similarities to Hungarian food. My family had a holiday home for 15 years in Hungary, so I ate something like (like Cluj).

Sasu Salin, amazed by a detail notified in Cluj Napoca: “Many Romanians speak English”

– Is there anything you don't like in Romania?
– I don't know, not too much. Maybe sometimes it's very muddy outside. That's the only thing, but it's okay.

-I asked you because almost all the strangers who were at the U-BT complained about the long roads by the bus.
– The roads could be better, yes, if you think, just to travel, but you get used to it. I stayed on the plane for so many years or on the bus when I played in Ljubljana. 13 hours travel.

– Eee, you look more on the window …
– Yes, I like the view and I always have something to do on the bus or when we travel, so I'm a relaxed guy.

– Did you learn something in Romanian?
– (laughs) Yes, just the bad words. Yes, this is always said. Aaa, it is also amazing how much the people here speak English, so it is easier. Of course, I understand a bit of what I say in Romanian. This is because I speak Spanish quite well, it is close to a little Romanian, so I understand the things or topics I talk about (people).
