Thousands of Australians participate in propalestinian meetings on Sunday, in a context of tense relations with Israel, following the decision of the Australian Center-Stânga Government to recognize the Palestinian state, writes Reuters.

According to the Palestine Action Group organization, about 40 demonstrations in Australia, with a large participation in the cities of Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, take place on Sunday.

According to the organizers, about 350,000 people participated in marches throughout the country, of which about 50,000 in Brisbane, where the police talked about 10,000 protesters.

Descending to the street, the Australians “demand the cessation of genocide in Gaza and ask the government to sanction Israel,” said Josh Lees, one of the organizers of the Sydney march, where the protesters, many of them wearing Palestinian flags, chanted “released Palestine”, according to News.ro.

Alex Ryvchin, Co-Ceo of the Executive Council of Australian Judaism, the Australian coordination group, told the Sky News television channel that these meetings create “a dangerous environment and should not take place.”

The demonstrations take place following the intensification of the personal attacks of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese, whose labist government has decided to recognize a Palestinian state.

Like France, the United Kingdom and Canada, the Australian government has announced that it wants to recognize, under certain conditions, a Palestinian state.

At the beginning of August, tens of thousands of people marched on the emblematic Harbor Bridge from Sydney, demanding peace and deliveries in Gaza, where Israel launched an offensive almost two years ago, after a deadly attack by the Hamas group.

Palestinian authorities say the conflict has killed over 60,000 people in Gaza, while humanitarian organizations talk about a generalized hunger in the territory.
