The incident occurred on Tuesday, but North Korea only revealed it on Saturday. This is the first day of foreign travel – to Japan, and then the US – the new President of South Korea, Li Dze, Mjung, who announced actions to reduce tensions in relations with Pyongyang.
The South Korean army confirmed that warning shots were fired when several North Korean soldiers crossed the border during actions in the dismilitarized zone separating both countries, which are formally still at war. According to the North Korean agency, KCNA soldiers of the DPRK worked on strengthening the border.
The South Korean side reported that North Korean soldiers withdrew after warning shots.
The North Korean General Koong Czol estimated that there was a “serious provocation”, as a result of which the situation on the border could turn “towards the confrontation” and then go into the “insurmountable” phase.
