The Walmart American supermarket network withdrew some of its products with shrimps after detecting radioactive substances in the supply of seafood – said the BBC British station portal.

The American Food and Drug Agency (FDA) has issued a warning for consumers so that they do not consume the Great Value shrimps of the Walmart network. In one sample of breaded shrimps from this brand, from the Indonesian supplier, a radioactive CEZ-137 isotope was detected, which is harmful to the human body. It is one of the main sources of radiation around the destroyed atomic power plants in Chernobyl, Ukraine and Fukushima in Japan.
The CEZ-137 structure resembles sodium and potassium elements, which makes it easily absorbed into the body and built into nerve and muscle tissues. It can cause cancer up to 30 years after contact.
FDA emphasizes that although the amount of CEZ-137 detected in a contaminated sample was not sufficient to cause serious health problems and although the contaminated sample did not go to the market in the US, it could have been contaminated by other products. That is why Walmart consumers in 13 American states, in which these shrimps are sold, it was recommended that they throw away all recently purchased products from three parties.
In an interview with the BBC, a spokesman for the BBC said that customer health and safety is the most important priority of the supermarket chain. – We introduced sales restrictions and withdrew this product from our stores, which this problem affected. We work with the supplier to examine the case – he added. He also emphasized that customers who bought withdrawn products can receive a full refund in every Walmart supermarket. (PAP)
