Anamaria Gavrilă requests a referendum on the topic of support given to Ukraine: “We want total transparency”

The leader of the Party of young people (can), Anamaria Gavrilă, denounces the decision of the Romanian authorities to engage “in an unconditional support for Ukraine” and requests, in a press release, to organize a referendum for “clarifying the will of the nation regarding the continuation of external assistance”.

It warns that the announcement of the Ministry of National Defense (MAPN) on Romania's adoption of a “total support” position for Ukraine places our country in the first regional security line and “represents a dangerous escalation in direct involvement in regional conflict”.

“The role of Romania in the context of the regional war should be re-qualified to protect the interests and needs of their own people.

“To what limit do we ignore citizens? We urgently request a national referendum to decide whether Romania has to continue this level of involvement. We want total transparency: to know exactly what amount Romania has granted to Ukraine and to conclude a recovery agreement, according to the US model. Solidarity cannot be unilateral and non -transparent. Humanitarian, military offered to Ukraine, including the structure, beneficiaries and the budget impact.

MAPN: Romania is ready to support the ally effort for Ukraine

The Ministry of National Defense has transmitted, previously during Thursday, that Romania is a reliable and active ally in the defense of the Eastern NATO flank and maintains its commitment for multidimensional and sustainable support granted to Ukraine, in close coordination with the Alliance and the European Union.

MAPN stressed that “Romania's air military infrastructure represents a strong point on the eastern flank of the North Atlantic Alliance for discouragement and defense.”

The Ministry of Defense recalls that the Romanian Air Force have F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft, and recently on the military base from Mihail Kogălniceanu, the certification of a detachment of the German Air Force took place, which carry out strengthened air missions, in cooperation with the Romanian military, for the defense of the NATO airspace.

“Romania is current and will be part of all the decisions of the Allies on Security Guarantees. The evaluations that are done at this time will be formalized by decisions that will comply with the international treaties and the laws in force,” said MAPN, in a press release.

The ministry also states that “Romania reaffirms its firm commitment to national and collective security, acting with responsibility and in full accordance with the obligations assumed within NATO and of the European Union.”

Bolojan: Romania's contribution to sustainable peace in Ukraine could be to make military bases available to NATO

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan says that making military bases available to NATO allies could be Romania in ensuring a support for a sustainable peace in Ukraine. The head of the government has given assurances that our country will not send troops to the territory of Ukraine.

“In all these months, as you know, when at one point the question of supporting security guarantees was raised to reach a strong peace in Ukraine, Romania said at least two things, as much as possible, we will not send troops, we will not engage in a possible assurance with troops, from Romania, on the territory of Ukraine, this point was as much as possible. In view of Romania's belonging to NATO, our military bases, which are still jointly operated by our forces and NATO forces, mainly the air, can be used by NATO troops, the United States troops, of the other allies, ”said Ilie Bolojan, at Antena 1, on security guarantees for Ukraine.

The prime minister said that even today, from our airports, air patrols are made, the air police are made to supervise what is happening in the Black Sea and the military exercises are done.

“This could be, to say, Romania's contribution to ensuring a support for a sustainable peace in Ukraine, making our military bases available to NATO,” added Prime Minister Bolojan, quoted by News.ro.
