The mandate of Marius-Dan Sîiulescu was marked by huge scandals related to illegal bonuses and financial losses. The Minister of the Environment announces that he has imposed special measures to prevent him from returning to the management.

Marius-Dan Sîiulescu drove Romsilva for a year and a half, until July 15, 2025, although he had been initially appointed only for four months, in January 2024. His mandate was repeatedly extended until the members of the Board of Directors were left without mandates.

During this period, the Court of Accounts discovered illegal payments of over 216 million lei (approximately 43 million euros), granted to employees in the form of “Collective prizes unrelated to individual performance ”. All this was done while the director recorded significant losses.

Asked at Antena 3 CNN about the retirement bonuses of 100,000 euros, Sîiulescu had a deficative answer: “They seem big, I don't say no, but they are legal”.

With all these controversies, Sîiulescu is now among the 24 candidates registered in the competition for the head of Romsilva.

The Minister of the Environment: “You cannot clean the whole Romsilva”

The Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, explained that he asked for transparency measures to prevent Sîiulescu's return to the leadership. She sent a list of questions to which the candidates must answer, insisting that the interviews be public.

“One of the questions was if when you had certain structures, in the previous years, there were losses and there were retirement bonuses or performance bonuses. When you could not clean the direction you have led, you can clearly clean out in all Romsilva.”said Buzoianu.

Asked if he trusts that the current Board of Directors, in which there are members accused of corruption, will make a decision based on professional criteria and not on political influences, the minister replied: “I have ceased a lot to put my expectations in the public space. I try to do my best to become the correct measure and decision. The interviews will be put publicly, so you will see if they will choose a weak candidate ”.

She stressed that for the first time in the history of the director the selection process is transparent: “Initially, the Council agreed. Then they said they had to ask for the consent of the candidates. I sent that if a candidate refusing the interview is selected, from the beginning there is a suspicion of incompetence. What did I understand, almost all accepted”, Stated the Minister of the Environment.

Trade unions, in the street against the reform

The Romsilva reform, which involves restructuring and a new leadership, caused the anger of the trade unionists. Dozens of members of the Silva Federation protested on Wednesday in front of the Ministry of the Environment, demanding the withdrawal of the draft Government Decision.

During the rally, the trade unionists refused to let Diana Buzoianu address people. The president of the federation, Silviu Geană, refused to give him the minister's microphone, despite the insistence.

How much the trade union leader wins the reform

Silviu Geană, the leader of the Silva Federation, has revenues of over 27,600 lei per month (approximately 5,500 euros), according to wealth statements:

  • 308,997 lei from the Silva Federation,
  • 11,707 lei from the Union of Forestry Bacău,
  • 11,707 lei as a member of the Board of Directors of ANOFM.

In connection with his refusal to allow the dialogue, Buzoianu said: “I cannot suspect what bothers him so hard in this reform except that they will no longer be the same leaders with whom he was used to. To bring people to the protest and then refuse to give them the opportunity to hear what the minister has to say is that he is afraid. Reformation brings transparencydramatically reduces the number of bosses and directors, and people of good faith will find jobs, because the forest bypasses are lacking in staff”.
