Hungarian prime minister said his country would receive Vladimir Putin
Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is in favor of continuing cooperation between EU and Russia and against military aid granted to Ukraine. After the beginning of the war in February 2022, Orban visited Moscow and met Putin, also visited Kiev and had discussions with Zelenski.
In June this year Orban said that Hungary would receive Vladimir Putin “with all the honors”, despite the arrest warrant on his behalf, issued by the International Criminal Court (CPI).
Orban's comments came less than a month after the Budapest Parliament adopted a law on the withdrawal of the country from the CPI. As a signatory country, Hungary would have been obliged to arrest the Kremlin leader by virtue of the mandate issued by the CPI on his behalf in March 2023, for war crimes.
At the beginning of April, Hungary ignored the arrest warrant issued by the CPI on behalf of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom Orban visited in Budapest.
