Revolution on the roads at our neighbors? Test a higher speed limit

The speed limit in Poland is the highest in Europe – it is 140 km/h on highways. The same speed can only be developed in Bulgaria. In most European countries, 130 km/h remains the standard, while in countries such as Belgium, Spain and Switzerland there is a limit of 120 km/h – writes Auto Świat. The Czechs want to raise the maximum speed on the highway.
The new speed limit would apply on the D3 motorway, on the section between the rolling stock and the Czech Budziejowice – says novinky.cz. Importantly, the limitation is to be dynamic and adapt to weather conditions. In the case of rain, fog or other difficulties, the maximum speed will be automatically lowered, about which drivers are to inform electronic boards.
Planned changes are experimental. If the new speed limit is successful, the Czech government does not rule out extending it to other sections of the highways. However, the idea arouses controversy. Critics point out that many drivers already exceed the applicable limit of 130 km/h, and the new recipe can additionally encourage them to drive even faster, which increases the risk of accidents.
Speed limit. Not only the Czechs want change
Czechs are not the only country that is thinking about increasing the maximum speed on highways. Austrians have similar plans, who have already conducted tests with a limit of 140 km/h – writes Auto Świat.
This time they are considering raising the speed to 150 km/h on selected sections of the A1 motorways in the lower and upper Austria. These are fragments between Melk and Oed (45 HP) and Haid and Sattledt (20 km) nodes. The change would improve road traffic and promote personal transport.
