We agreed on a security guarantee that I would describe as a breakthrough – said US President Steve Witkoff on Sunday in an interview with CNN, adding that Russia offered concessions on certain regions. Meanwhile, Donald Trump announced “great progress”.

– We agreed on solid security guarantees that I would describe as groundbreaking – said Witkoff, asked to present the findings of the talks of US and Russia leaders in Alaska. – We did not think that we were in any way close to consent to protect article 5 on the part of the United States – he added, referring to the article obliging NATO to provide armed assistance to attacked allies.
Witkoff also mentioned among the achievements of the summit Announcement of enrollment in Russian law of a commitment to not not include subsequent territorial claims against Ukraine and not to make other countries when the peace agreement is “codified”.
The presidential advisor also said that Russia offered “concessions on some other regions” except Donbass, but refused to mention them. He noted, however, that both Ukrainians and European leaders know about this and everyone agrees that great progress has been made.
– Maybe insufficient to conclude an agreement, but we are on the path for the first time. We see concessions to a greater extent than in the past – he noted.

He added that he wanted to leave this point to reach a good agreement for Ukraine, which “will allow them to self -determination and protect their sovereign borders.”
Translating Trump's decision to move away from the request to suspend a weapon, the president's envoy stated that he wanted to sign the peace agreement “very, very quickly, faster than the suspension of weapons.” He claimed that the progress made in Alaska allowed it, and he assessed that in this way he was bypassed by determining the details that would have to be discussed during the truce.
President Donald Trump also pointed to “great progress” with Russia on Sunday in a short entry on the Truth Social Social Platform.
“Great progress in the matter of Russia. Wait for further information,” he announced.
