Greece, engaged in flames
Greece goes again through a critical period due to vegetation fires, even in full tourist season. On Tuesday evening, the authorities ordered the evacuation of the town of Kato Achaia, from the Peloponnese peninsula, after a forest and vegetation fire has already destroyed numerous homes.
The flames also arrived on the island of Zakynthos, where, according to Ertnews, they burn on a 20 -kilometer front. In the last 48 hours, the firefighters intervened at no less than 152 fires at national level. About 4,900 firefighters, supported by 62 planes and helicopters, fight without stopping with fire.
On the island of Chios the fires seriously affected several areas. The inhabitants of the village of Limnia asked for help on the platform X: “We are stuck in Limnia, a boat must come quickly; There are children and old people here“, A user wrote.
The coast guard evacuated about 60 people from the port of the town, while the dense smoke made the breath more difficult. Video recordings posted on social networks show the dimension of the disaster, with whole areas consumed by flames.
The Romanian mission in Greece
The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) transmitted, yesterday, August 13, that the Romanian crews intervened in the Megara area, Western Attica. “A short time ago, the RO-GFFFF-V module, dislocated in the Greek Republic, was alerted after the outbreak of a vegetation fire in the Megara area.
