Polish and Lithuanian campsite are prowling in Europe. They have expensive motorhomes in the crosshairs

Hundreds of people currently travel by motorhomes throughout Europe. They enjoy the most beautiful period of the year. Carefree holidays, however, can quickly turn into a nightmare. Expensive motorhomes are particularly attractive to criminals.

Stolen in three minutes

Eastern Germany is one of the regions where there was a large number of thefts. Eleven campers were stolen in Dresden alone.

The theft is made by well -organized gangs, which often have connections with Poles and Lithuanians. Mafie stealing motorhomes work very professionally.

Potential goals are searched for with Google Maps and Street View, checking where the most vehicles stand. Especially many motorhomes disappear at night before the start of the holidays. Criminals break into them when they are already packed in front of the house, and the owners sleep calmly in their own beds.

Thieves use tools that are used to open the locks in case of losing keys. Then criminals deactivate the engine blockade and leave, putting specially made license plates on the vehicle. These are duplicates – copies of real license plates of similar motorhome models. Thanks to this, thieves do not notice the eye during the inspection.

Campers based on Fiat, Peugeot or Citroen are particularly popular. According to experts, they can be easily opened, often in less than three minutes.

How to protect yourself? Park a camper in a closed parking lot or in a garage. For those who do not have such a possibility, there are two tips: you can mount the steering wheel lock or install a GPS locator, which immediately starts the alarm when the vehicle is moving.
