From the moment when Trump announced on social media on Friday the intention to meet Putin, intensive diplomatic activities were behind the scenes, aimed at obtaining the support of US allies.
The President of Ukraine Wołodymyr Zelanski in a video speech after Trump announced a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Ukraine was “ready to cooperate with President Trump”, but firmly rejected the possibility of any territorial concessions.

The announcement of Trump did not find information whether and when Wołodymyr Zelnski will be included in the negotiating process. Meanwhile, both Zelanski and European leaders emphasize that Ukraine must be part of all conversations regarding the end of the war.
During the Saturday meeting organized by JD Vance in the residence of the British Minister of Foreign Affairs, European officials presented their conditions and demanded from US representatives more information about the plan that Putin presented on Wednesday to the American envoy Steve Witkoff.
In a statement, the leaders of France, Italy, Germany, Poland, Great Britain, the European Union and Finland stated that the group was satisfied with “President Trump's actions aimed at stopping killing in Ukraine, the end of the aggressive war of the Russian Federation and achieving just and lasting peace and security for Ukraine.”
At the same time, it was emphasized that “the current contact line should be a starting point for negotiations, and occupied territories cannot be de iure recognized as part of the Russian Federation. Ukraine has the freedom to choose its own path. Serious negotiations can only take place in the conditions of weapon suspension or limitation of hostilities. The road to peace in Ukraine cannot be marked without the participation of Ukraine. “
