Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pasinian and Azer President Ilham Aliev signed a peace agreement on the White House on a ceremony hosted by US President Donald Trump, Reuters reports.
Trump said that Armenia and Azerbaijan have fought for 35 years “and now they are friends and will be friends for a long time,” notes.
Reuters appreciates that the agreement – if it is respected – will be a significant achievement for the United States, which will irritate Russia, who believes that the Caucasian region is part of its sphere of influence.

Armenia and Azerbaijan have disputed since the end of 1980 the Armenian Enclava Nagorno-Karabah on the territory of Azer, until the Azer armed forces managed to take control in 2023, following an extremely fast offensive. Almost all 100,000 ethnic Armenians have taken refuge in Armenia.
The Friday's agreement also provides for exclusive US development rights on a strategic corridor in the south of Caucasus.
Trump has announced that both former Soviet republics have also signed separate understandings with Washington to expand cooperation in the fields of energy, trade and technology.
The United States has also eliminated restrictions on military cooperation with Azerbaijan
