Invited on Friday night to Digi24, Dominic Fritz spoke about organizing the elections for the future general mayor of Bucharest, but also about the possibility of a common candidacy of the right: “I emphasize that it will be important to have a common candidacy on the right side”, according to News.ro.

The president of the Union Save Romania reiterated the candidacy of Cătălin Drulă for the position of mayor of Bucharest, which he calls “well trained, where he also says that he would be an excellent mayor”.

However, Fritz says the party has discussions with PNL coalition colleagues for a common candidate.

“I have not officially appointed it yet, but it is not a secret that we have Cătălin Drulă, who is well trained, where the president says that he would be an excellent mayor. But I emphasize that it will be important to have a common candidacy on the right side and these are discussions that we now take with the PNL partners,” said the USR.

“We believe that the law must be respected. The law says that, for 90 days after a mayor is vacant, for example, partial elections must be made. It is obvious that we have already exceeded this term and I think that in a democracy we cannot hide from the elections, they are not healthy because they have a lack of legitimacy, and that is why it is important.

Understanding with Nicușor Dan and Ilie Bolojan for a common candidacy

President Nicușor Dan and the leaders of PNL and USR have understood themselves on a common candidacy for the position of general mayor of the Capital, political sources quoted by News.ro. Nicușor Dan and Ilie Bolojan also agreed: Cătălin Drulă, former USR leader, who, moreover, was recently met with Nicușor Dan.

The candidate of the PNL-USR coalition for the capital will be given by the USR, in the context in which PNL has already obtained the head of the Government. Nicușor Dan insisted that the USR would give the candidate, according to the sources that News.ro quotes.

If the understanding between PNL and USR will materialize, the PSD must establish its own candidate.

At this moment, the social-democratic leaders are trying to convince the current mayor of Sector 4, Daniel Băluță, to take the candidacy, but he refuses, unhappy that he did not obtain the party chief after Marcel Ciolacu's resignation, according to News.ro.

If Daniel Băluță will not change his mind, most likely Gabriela Firea will enter the race from the PSD. Taken into account is the mayor of Sector 2, Rareș Hopincă, who was in the past and prefect of the Capital.
