The only condition put by Trump for meeting a little, revealed by a source from the White House. Known details about bilateral summit

One day after US President Donald Trump informed European leaders to meet his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, divergethon and Moscow have already emerged on how the Summit is outlined, writes CNN on Thursday, in an analysis dedicated to the latest US Evolutions.

While the Kremlin transmitted, during the day, that next week's meeting is practically agreed, American officials suggested that nothing has been completed, including the format, date or place of discussions.

If the meeting will take place, then this will be the first among the leaders of the two countries of 2021, when Putin has met with former President Joe Biden in Geneva, in Switzerland. Moscow launched its large-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

“Putin has to meet Zelenski”

Trump made clear in the telephone call on Wednesday with European leaders-among which were the British Prime Minister, the German Chancellor and the Finnish President-that he intends to meet with both Putin and with Ukrainian president Volodimir Zelenski, who also participated in this telephone discussion.

Also, two European officials said, for CNN, that the idea of a trilateral meeting took it by surprise when Trump discussed it during the telephone conversation.

The White House later transmitted that Trump is “open at a meeting with both President Putin and President Zelenski.”

On Thursday, however, Putin was reserved for the idea of a meeting with Zelenski, saying that “certain conditions” must be met.

Although the Kremlin counselor, Iuri Usakov, said that a meeting between Trump and Putin could take place next week and that the preparations for this are already ongoing, he minimized the chances of a trilateral meeting with Zelenski, saying that Moscow did not respond to the proposal presented by the US Emissary.

Trump will not meet a little unless he meets Zelenski, an American official said on Thursday. This statement was made one day after Trump stated that there is “very good perspectives” for a high level meeting between him, Putin and Zelenski, although the US president added that he was “extremely disappointed” by the Russian leader in the past.

Another American publication, the New York Post was the first to write on Thursday that President Trump will meet Vladimir Putin only if the Russian leader will meet with Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski.

“Putin has to meet Zelenski for the meeting (Trump-Putin, no) to take place,” said a white house official for The Post. “The location has not yet been established,” this source said.

In fact, the White House has not officially confirmed a bilateral meeting – nor did this mention this at the press conference on Wednesday, in which he talked about a possible trilateral meeting between US, Russia and Ukraine presidents, notes the New York Post.

Other visible divergences

Meanwhile, Zelenski seemed more and more insistent on a trilateral meeting. Mentioning in his Wednesday night video speech to the nation that Ukraine's security advisers will discuss the problem with their European and American counterparts later, on Thursday, the Kiev leader said that “everyone knows that key decisions in Russia are taken by one person. And that this person is afraid of the United States. negotiations ”.

Divergences also appeared about who proposed the meeting.

The White House said that the Russians are the ones who “expressed their desire” to meet Trump. However, Usakov claimed that the initiative came “at the suggestion of the American Part.”

Putin suggested that the same matter is irrelevant. “Who said the first and what he said, does not matter anymore,” the Russian president said.

Until Thursday, no place for discussions had been established, although Putin said that the United Arab Emirates would be a “perfect” option, as he met in Moscow with the leader of this country, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed of Nahyan.

Other locations in the Middle East have also been discussed, said people familiar with the problem. A European diplomat said that the meeting is unlikely to take place in Europe, because Putin would not consider a country there as a neutral land.

The idea of a summit between Putin and Trump appeared after Witkoff met with the Russian leader for three hours in Moscow on Wednesday. After the meeting, Trump said that there was no “huge progress” between the two and was cautious when he was asked about the calendar of an agreement, saying that “he has been disappointed in the past” regarding the Russian president.

The Witkoff-Putin meeting, which marked the fifth visit of the American emissary this year, took place after Trump, frustrated, imposed Moscow a deadline, expiring on Friday, August 8, to accept a armistice, otherwise risking to face secondary sanctions, that is 100% customs duties.

Just a few hours after the meeting, the American leader announced additional 25% rates for India, as a punishment for its Russian crude oil imports.

Zelenski: “The main thing is that Russia does not deceive us in details”

Trump is trying to mediate a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine since taking over his mandate, in January, saying before he could end the war in just 24 hours.

In the months that followed, there were few progress, Moscow insisting that he wants peace, while intensifying the attacks on Ukraine.

Critics have suggested that Putin's actions of the last few months have been attempts to freeze discussions and to earn time for his troops to gain ground on the Ukraine Fighting Field.

Trump, meanwhile, has repeatedly expressed the growing frustration compared to the fact that Putin says one, but does another.

“I have concluded an agreement four times, and then you go home and see that (Russia) has just attacked an asylum or something in Kiev. So what was that?” The American leader said in an interview with BBC News last month.

Zelenski, who spoke to Trump after Wednesday's meeting between Putin and Witkoff, said on Wednesday that “it seems that Russia is now more inclined to (a) armistice.”

“The pressure on Russia works. But the main thing is not to deceive us in details. Neither us nor the United States,” said the Ukrainian leader, in his Nocturn video speech addressed to the nation.
