OMV Petrom signed a contract for the delivery of gases from the Neptun Deep deposit from the Black Sea to the state company in the Republic of Moldova, Energocom, according to a statement of the Ministry of Energy.
The event marks the beginning of a new stage in strengthening regional energy security and capitalizing on Romania's strategic natural resources.
The signed contract provides for the supply of natural gas for 3 years to the virtual trading point (VTP) in Romania, with the final destination the Republic of Moldova.
The gases will come from the Offshore Neptun Deep deposit, the largest natural gas project in the Black Sea and the first high -depth project of Romania, with reserves estimated at at least 100 billion cubic meters.
- “The resources in the Black Sea are a strategic advantage for us and a responsibility towards our neighbors and brothers. I have always said that Neptun Deep is about solidarity, about the common energy future of the region. The signing of this contract shows that Romania not only promises, but delivers – resources, safety and trust.
- Through this gas delivery to the Republic of Moldova, Romania confirms its role as an energy security provider in the region. It is a mission that we assume with responsibility, aware that energy stability is the foundation of a functional economy and a powerful state ”, said the minister of relevance, Sebastian Burduja.
OMV Petrom will deliver to Energocom below 1% of total minimum reserves in the perimeter Neptun Deep
According to the minister, this step confirms both the viability of the Neptun Deep project and the maturation of the energy market in Romania and our ability to think regional, strategic, European.
- “We will continue to be with our brothers over Prut, for a safer and more prosperous future for us all.
- We also mention that, from the perspective of the volume contracted, we are talking about an amount of less than 1% of the total minimum reserves confirmed in the perimeter Neptun Deep. We keep enough space for the use of Romanian gas in Romania, in the energy sector and for the rebirth of the Romanian industry, being at the same time ready to support our brothers over the Prut to eliminate any addiction to the energy resources from the East, ”Burduja said.
The Neptun Deep project is the largest offshore natural gas exploitation project in the Black Sea and the first high depth in Romania. Co-Developed by Romgaz and OMV Petrom, Neptun Deep has reserves estimated at a minimum of 100 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
The first commercial volumes are expected in 2027, and this contract signed with Energocom SA becomes the first concrete step of regional recovery of this strategic resource.
Neptun Deep will allow Romania to strengthen its position as the largest natural gas producer in the European Union, contributing major to national and European energy independence. At the same time, the project is an important catalyst for attracting investments, developing the infrastructure and creating jobs in the Romanian economy.
This collaboration between OMV Petrom and Energocom SA reflects both the efficiency of market mechanisms and the political will of institutions on both banks of the Prut to build a sustainable energy alliance, on European and democratic basis, the statement said.
