The main communication line “Megafon” connected Khabarovsk and Komsomolsk-on-Amur

Megafon launched a trunk line between Khabarovsk and Komsomolsky-on-Amur, using Russian DWDM-multiplexors.

The new line provides data transfer speed of 100 Gb/s. This is the first infrastructure project of the scale for the operator in which domestic equipment is used. The length of the communication channel, which connected the two largest cities in the Khabarovsk Territory, amounted to more than 400 kilometers, its launch made it possible to increase the flexibility and reliability of the main network in the region.

When choosing a technical solution, experts were guided primarily by the requirements for performance, scalability and compatibility with the existing infrastructure. According to the results of laboratory and field tests, the choice was made in favor of the DWDM equipment of the Russian manufacturer T8, which exceeds foreign analogues in a number of parameters.

The DWDM technology (DENSE WAVELENGTH DIVision Multiplexing) makes it possible to significantly increase the throughput of optical lines by transmitting many channels at different wavelengths of one fiber. The routers installed on the lines distribute signals through the desired channels, strengthen them in the long areas and provide a quick and stable data transfer.

The complexity of the project was the heterogeneous structure of the cable route: the site included fibers of different types for which standard solutions are not suitable. Megafon engineers, together with T8 specialists, made unique calculations of the DWDM systems and its components, including transponders and optical amplifiers that compensate for the possible attenuation of the signal. This approach made it possible to accurately adapt the equipment to the terms of the route and ensure a high data transfer rate.

“The launch of the new main line is part of the implementation of our long -term strategy for the development of a network in the Far East, it has become an important section of the highway connecting the largest nodes in the region. Together with partners, we were able to not only ensure a high speed of data transfer, but also maintain the ability to scale the DWDM system in this direction up to 800 Gb/s. We will continue to consistently introduce this decision in other parts of the main network across the country, which will allow us to strengthen the reliability of infrastructure and increase technological independence, ”said Andrei Krishtofovich, director of the development of the Megaphone transport network.

“For the company T8, participation in this project has become an important step forward-both from the point of view of the large-scale use of Russian DWDM solutions, and in terms of the development of technological partnership with one of the largest operators of the country's communications. Such projects are especially interesting for us from the technical side: they require high accuracy in calculations and compliance with the most stringent requirements for the performance and reliability of equipment. For us, as developers and manufacturers, this is not just a call, but a direct request from the industry for current solutions that can ensure the stability and scalability of modern network infrastructure, ”added Olga Yangchevskaya, deputy general director of T8 for commerce.
