Philip Morris International (PMI) was included, for the third consecutive year, in the Forbes top considered “Net Zero Leaders” for 2025. The company occupies the fourth place in the ranking that highlights the 200 US companies that have made the highest progress in achieving the greenhouse gas reduction objective (GES).

This recognition reflects the constant commitment of the PMI in combating climatic changes and approaching sustainable practices, the result of global efforts. At the same time, it highlights the integrated approach of the company, which combines responsibility for the environment with the deep transformation of its business model.

The ranking was made by Forbes magazine based on the data provided by Sustachinetics and Morningstar and evaluates the progress of companies in the direction of reaching the net goal. The analysis took into account the management structure of each company, the risk management capacity, the governance, strategy and performance indicators for decarbonization (objectives 1, 2 and 3), as well as the financial force necessary to meet the competition in industry and economic volatility.

Since 2017, Philip Morris International (PMI) has invested over 730 million dollars in the Retehnologization and modernization of the Philip Morris Romania factory in Otopeni. Some of these investments were directed to sustainability:

  • The installation of 6,000 solar panels in order to reduce the carbon imprint;
  • Recycling and valorization of waste;
  • Sustainable treatment of wastewater in treatment plants.

In addition, the company is actively involved in protecting the environment through rendering projects, biodiversity conservation and environmental actions carried out in partnership with local NGOs and authorities.

Philip Morris International: A global leader in building a smoke -free future

Philip Morris International (PMI) is a top international consumer goods company that aims to build a smoke-free future and expand, in the long term, the portfolio of products outside the product sector containing tobacco or nicotine. The current product portfolio of the company consists mainly in cigarettes and smoke -free products, including products that heat tobacco without burning it and nicotine envelopes. On June 30, 2025, smoke -free products developed by the PMI were available for sale in 97 markets, and PMI estimates that about 41 million adult consumers worldwide use the smoke -free products developed by the company; Many of them gave up cigarettes or significantly reduced their consumption. Smoke -free products represented approximately 41% of the total net income of the PMI in the first quarter of 2025.
