The digital ecosystem of MTS and the Avito online platform conducted a study on the issues of digital education of children. Experts found out when and what rules of Internet security residents of the Krasnoyarsk Territory tell their children and at what age they allow the use of digital platforms.

Krasnoyarsk parents are responsible to control the time that the child spends on the network. 24 % of respondents limit the use time, 19 % – both time and content, 21 % – only content, and 24 % trust children and ask them to independently regulate their time. 12 % do not limit the time that the child spends on the Internet.

On average, mothers and dads from Krasnoyarsk allow their children to actively use digital platforms from about 10 years old. It is interesting to note that the older the parents, the higher this indicator-for parents aged 25-34 years, the acceptable age is 9 years, while for group 55-64 years-12 years.

According to the survey, most of the Krasnoyarsk parents (74 %) tell the basics of safe behavior on the network as soon as the child has the first smartphone, 22 % of respondents are engaged in preventing in advance – even before buying a gadget. And only 4 % begin lessons after the first negative experience, for example, after deception on the network.

Among the safety rules on the Internet, parents most often teach children not to report personal data (85 %), such as the series and passport number, bank cards, passwords, mobile phone number and others. Also, mothers and dads are taught not to transmit on suspicious links (83 %), not transfer access to the account (54 %), do not transfer preparation during online buyers and do not send money directly to the seller’s card (49 %) and do not agree to move to another messenger (42 %), as well as create reliable passwords and connect two-factor authentication (27 %).

“Modern children plunge into the digital world from 5-6 years old, and this is a natural process. An important task of the parent is not to protect the child from the Internet with a wall, but to become his reliable guide in this space. The key to security is an honest and open dialogue. Discuss with the children the real risks of the network: why it is impossible to trust personal data to strangers, how to recognize manipulations and why any doubt is an occasion to immediately contact the parent. The child will still explore the online world. Our common goal is to make this path as protected as possible, filling it with confidence and practical knowledge of digital security rules, ”comments Arseny of Epas, the director of the Safe Space Service for Children Mambrana Kids.

“Children easily master technology, but often do not realize risks. According to the “digital dictation 2024”, the level of digital literacy in adolescents is lower than the average in the country. This emphasizes the need to form the right habits in children and understanding the basics of digital security from an early age: the earlier children learn about the risks and capabilities of the Internet, the easier it will be to adapt and build safe models of behavior on the network. We are aware of our role in this process. The first experience of interacting with online platforms largely determines the further attitude of the user towards them. Therefore, it is extremely important for us that the first transactions on the Internet are not only successful, but also safe and positively affect the trust of children in digital space, ”says Natalya Yumatova, Director of Avito's Trust and Security.

Krasnoyarsk parents noted that on average their children spend on online platforms about three hours a day. Most of the time they devote video chosengas (42 %), playgrounds and online games (31 %), social networks and instant messengers (29 %), online cinemas (20 %), short videos (20 %).
