Marcel Ciolacu, stings to the USR, after the death of Ion Iliescu: “Morbid propaganda of a party simulacrum”

Former prime minister and leader of the Social Democrats Marcel Ciolacu published on Tuesday evening, in the context of the death of former President Ion Iliescu, an appeal to his party colleagues asking them to ignore “all the political and political misery”. He thus sent arrows to the USR, although he did not mention the name of the current PSD governance partner.
“Dear colleagues, in the memory of former President Ion Iliescu and out of respect for the bereaved family, please ignore all the political and misery! There are only painful attacks of some people who will never rise to the height of the inheritance left by the founding leader of the PSD,” Ciolacu wrote in a Facebook page.

- “The Snagov Pact is just an example of a vision from former President Ion Iliescu who could hardly be matched by some who do not understand what it really means to be a state man.
- The wounds of the soul and the societal faults do not close through division and stupid revolts in the face of history. ”
In the Government meeting on Tuesday night, USR proposed not to be declared a day of national mourning in memory of former President Ion Iliescu, the party leader, Dominic Fritz, announced. Also, USR representatives will not participate in the funerals of the former head of state.

Subsequently, the interim president of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, sent a message on Facebook on Tuesday evening, in which he asked for “decency to everything he represented and left as a political inheritance” Ion Iliescu.
“Respect for the most important function in the state and the man who led Romania on the way of democracy! Deception to everything he represented and left as a political inheritance! Humanity to the family and close friends he left behind! So much more! Without scandal, without the little soul and a sterile propaganda! President! ”, Said Sorin Grindeanu.

The message of the PSD leader had come in the context of the USR proposal made in the Government meeting.
Ion Iliescu died on Tuesday at the age of 95. The former head of state was admitted since June at the Emergency Clinical Hospital “Prof. Dr. Agrippa Ionescu”, being diagnosed with lung cancer.
His health has begun to deteriorate from Saturday.
Ion Iliescu will be buried on Thursday, August 7, when it will be a national mourning day. The burial ceremony of the former president will only take place in the presence of family and close persons.
The government announced that it adopted on Tuesday evening, in an extraordinary meeting, a decision declaring August 7, 2025 day of national mourning, in memory of Ion Iliescu.
In accordance with the legal provisions in force, on the day of national mourning, all central and local public institutions and authorities will fly the flag of Romania in Bern. Also, the national flag in Bern will be flown to the headquarters of political parties, trade union and employer organizations, educational institutions of any degree, cultural institutions and diplomatic missions, at the points for crossing the border, in airports, ports, stations and bus, as well as as a pavilion on the vessels of any kind and on the Romanian pavilion. The same obligation also belongs to the individuals, if they fly the flag of Romania at home or at the residence.
At the same time, the radio and television stations, as well as the cultural institutions, will adapt their broadcast program and the activities organized accordingly this day.
