The conflict with the president does not help the government and Poland in implementing foreign policy and building our security. One voice should be heard from Poland, not two. We are ready to cooperate with Karol Nawrocki, says government spokesman Adam Szłapka to “Rzeczpospolita”.

The government spokesman was asked in “Rzeczpospolita” about polls which show that coalition formations would not have a majority to govern, unlike PiS, Konfederacja and Konfederacja Korona Polskiej. As he said in response, “PiS with Confederation and Braun in power is the most harmful scenario for Poland, from which Poles must be defended.”.

“As for our coalition partners exceeding the electoral threshold, it is not known in what configuration we will go to the elections in 2027. We will do even more for two years to prevent the extreme right from winning and taking Poland out of the European Union,” he noted.

When asked about unfulfilled election promises, he said that 1/3 of them had been fulfilled and most were in the process of being implemented. He added that the government is naturally limited by coalition partners who have different views, such as PSL and the Left.

Referring to the liberalization of abortion law, he said that it was impossible to implement this demand“at least because of President Karol Nawrocki's announcement that he will not sign anything like that.”

“There is a committee in the Sejm that will work out a solution. There were guidelines from Minister Izabela Leszczyna and Minister Adam Bodnar in this regard, which also changed the situation. The postulate is valid and we will certainly prepare a solution that will be accepted by the entire coalition, even though we know that President Nawrocki will throw sand into the wheels of the government and veto good and necessary solutions,” he noted.

When asked about relations with the US, Szłapka emphasized that Poland's interest is always the most important, and it is in its interest to have a strong position in the EU and NATO, which are the foundation of security.

“Contrary to what PiS says, there is no contradiction in good relations with the United States and a strong position in the European Union. On the contrary, these relations may be coupled. With a stronger position in Europe, we are a more attractive partner for Americans. Having good relations with the Americans, we have a strong position in Europe,” he said. (PAP)
