Eurostat emphasizes that although the number of drowning is falling throughout the European Union, the problem still remains serious – especially in the summer, when the number of accidents above the water increases. In 2022, in the EU, 194 people drowned less than in 2021, which means a 4 % decrease.
The share of drowning in the total number of fatal accidents has also decreased – from 3.1 percent. in 2021 to 2.8 percent in 2022 This is the lowest level since 2011, when data collection began and when this indicator was 4.2 percent.

Most drowning in France and Germany
