In Navelgas, Asturia in the north of Spain, the world championships in golden rinsing begin on Sunday. Over half a thousand participants from 24 countries will compete for a week in individual and group categories.

The village of Navelgas, with only 300 inhabitants, is the host of those professions for the third time, which has the name of a holiday with regional tourist significance.
Each of the participants of the competition has at their disposal a bucket with sand weighing from 10 to 20 kilograms, in which gold nuggets are placed. The competitors standing at containers with water must within a few minutes, with the help of golden rinsing pan, separate sand from the ore.

The idea of the competition was born half a century in Finland and spread to other countries where gold is erected.
Asturia has a long tradition of gold extracting, dating back to Roman times. Nowadays, rinsing gold in rivers, including around Navelgas, is a popular tourist attraction.
