According to information general director, Maea Rafael Mariano Grossi, cited by the Ukrainian agency, the auxiliary object was shelled by artillery and drones. It is located 1200 meters from the nuclear power plant.
The incident was the latest series of events from recent months, which according to Maea “highlight potential threats to nuclear safety”. “I am appealing again for maximum military restraint near nuclear objects to prevent the risk of failure,” said Grossi.
The Russians occupy the power plant
The Zaporian Nuclear Power Plant, the largest nuclear gym in Europe, has been occupied since the beginning of March 2022. There are Russian soldiers and employees of the Russian state group Rosatom.
Until February 2022, i.e. the beginning of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the power plant in Enerhodar was connected to the four main energy lines with a voltage of 750 kilovolts. Six spare lines with a voltage of 330 kilovolts remained at the management of the object.
