A new threatening trend from the thread among young people. Retired CBŚP officer: dangerous and deadly

This is an extremely disturbing and current topic – a deadly internet trend that spreads among young people under the slogan “Jesus” or “Crucifixion” – said Marcin “Borys” Miksza, a retired officer of CBŚP. In his opinion, services from behind the eastern border can be behind him.

According to a retired officer, this phenomenon combines risky physical behavior with elements of religious and media culture, and its consequences are already tragic.

– The trend of “Crucified Jesus” is an extreme example of the so -called Performative digital extremism – emphasized Miksza. He added that young people imitate behavior lined with religious symbolism, often not understanding their meaning. “They risk life in pursuit of visibility on the web,” he pointed out.

PAP informed on Monday for the Kidsaler Foundation that Young people around the world, also in Poland, enter, for example, high buildings and hang in the position of the crucified. There are dangerous accidents. The Kidsaler Foundation warns parents: “This trend is beyond control.”

In the pictures and films posted on the web by Internet users, we can see young people who hang on road signs, billboards, mobile phone mast in such a way as to look like a crucified Christ.

– It's not safe. The kids fall, break bones, serious damage to the body associated with falls from a height – pointed out Kinga Szostko from Kidsaler.

Marcin “Borys” Miksza, asked by PAP for an opinion, noted that this is a form of behavior in which “a shock element is to attract attention, the aesthetics of suffering and sacrifice can be attractive to people in emotional crisis, recording of falls or injury are presented as evidence of courage, which can act as a meme of honor.”

He also noticed that this could attract young people with mood disorders, depression or suicidal thoughts. – The theme of rising to heaven, crucifixion and suffering can be a dangerous “language” for people experiencing a mental crisis. This requires an urgent psychological reaction – appealed Marcin “Borys” Miksza.

In his opinion, the hypothesis that the trend could be strengthened or even intentionally propagated by foreign services, “fits into the known phenomena of disinformation and information war.”

– Many dangerous “internet fashions” serve not only to collect coverage, but also to break up social norms, reduce the sense of security, sowing chaos in the sphere of upbringing and values – said a retired policeman.

He emphasized that this trend shows how far the lack of awareness of parents and guardians can go. – Instead of panic, the need for media education – how trends work, how to recognize them, teaching about cybergrozing in schools, emotional support and mood monitoring – he explained.

Miksza emphasized that “the lack of tabtok reaction to this trend is disturbing.”

At the same time, he pointed out that platform algorithms reward emotions – also destructive ones. – There is a lack of corporate responsibility for Viral content with a potentially deadly effect. Time for a debate on how to force intervention at the level of content recommendation systems – he noted.

Proposes, among others: reporting such content for platforms and law enforcement agencies; Organizing workshops for young people on the boundaries of expression on the web; strengthening psychoprophylactics in schools, especially around the subject of depression, religion and death symbolism; Public warning campaigns, but without sensationalism, but with emotional authenticity.

According to the retired CBŚP officer, the trend of “Jesus” is not only a stupid freak, it is a phenomenon with serious social and psychological consequences. – requires response at many levels, from parents and teachers through psychologists to digital platforms and law enforcement agencies. This is not allowed to underestimate – he said.
