Yes, it was a declining session on the Warsaw trading floor. But Friday's rather moderate declines on the Warsaw Stock Exchange were clearly more gentle than what happened on the world's most important stock exchanges.

WIG20 did not give up and on Friday it was still struggling to break above 2,900 points. It is true that on Friday the flagship index of the Warsaw Stock Exchange lost 0.52%, but during the day it managed to make up for the morning declines, increasing from 2,817 points. (daily minimum) up to 2,872.02 points. achieved at closing.

So this formally declining session didn't look that bad from a technical point of view. The scenario of breaking the 2,900-point line is still in play, which, based on technical analysis, would mean an exit from the autumn sideways trend and would again open the way to the August peak of the bull market at 3,032.16 points.

It is worth noting that once again this week the WSE showed relative strength compared to the main European markets. A loss of only half a percent in WIG 20 with a nearly 1.5 percent decline in DAX or declines of approximately 1% in London and Milan does not look that bad. The most important indexes in New York also started the day on a low note.

In the United States, concerns about the condition of the local banking sector are returning. These are the so-called regional banks, which in 2020-21 purchased a whole lot of poor quality securities at record high prices. On Thursday, Zions Bancorp took a $50 million write-off on a loan from a subsidiary. This is a return to the banking “crisis” in the US that took place in the spring of 2023. Then the panic was averted by the Fed with the support of JP Morgan Chase. The system de facto guaranteed all bank deposits in the US (including corporate and large-value ones), saving SVB customers. However, it is not certain whether the causes of that crisis have been resolved.

Among the blue chips, CCC's quotations stood out, increasing by 5.5%. Let us recall that a day earlier, the price of the footwear company fell by over 5% due to the accusations of the analytical company NINGI Research, which accused CCC of accounting manipulations and took a short position in the shares of the Polish company. The shares of Budimex gained 2.5%, while the price of CD Projekt increased by 1.7%. The red lights in WIG 20 were PGE (-2.4%) and KGHM (-1.8%).

For the general market it was a clearly bearish session. Nearly 60% of the securities on the main market fell below the mark. Not a single security recorded at least an annual maximum in quotations. WIG recorded a decline of 0.42% with quite average turnover, ultimately amounting to PLN 1.68 billion. However, mWIG40 returned only 0.1%, while SWIG80 fell by 0.3%.
