This year's summer in the fields is “wet harvest”, extreme weather and a serious threat to the quality of crops – said the Wielkopolska Chamber of Agriculture (Wir). She added that the purchase prices are lower than last year and do not guarantee the profitability of crops.
According to WIR, difficult weather conditions are the biggest challenge of this year's harvest in the region. Frequent rainfall and high humidity cause downtime in field work. In many farms, collections are carried out in a hurry, in short weather windows, often between successive rainfall.
As the chamber passed, due to spring drought, the grain may be poorly educated and there is a fear that if the rains persist – it will be overgrown. Cereals and rapeseed ripen at high humidity, which favored the development of diseases.
Purchase prices remain at very low levels, are lower than last year and do not guarantee the profitability of crops. Additional deductions for pollution and grain quality further reduce farm income.
In the Piła poviats and Czarnkowsko-Trzcianecki, the harvest is underway. Winter barley collections have already been completed. Farmers can boast of good crops, especially in the case of winter barley (6.8 t/ha in the Piła poviat) and wheat (up to 7 t/ha in the Czarnkowsko-Trzcianecki poviat). Winter barley was also collected from the field in the Gniezno poviat. The yield is from 5 to 8 t/ha at a price at a price of 650 to 680 PLN/t. Rapeseed collections began; approx. 25 percent were threatened. area.
In the Wrzesiński poviat, all collections are delayed due to bad weather conditions. Jara barley (yield: 4-7 t/ha, price: 640-670 PLN/t) was collected from fields in 95 percent Rapeseed is in the initial phase of the collection.
The harvest is also delayed in the Poznań poviat. Due to moisture, cereal grain is infected with fungal diseases, and wheat does not meet the required consumer parameters.
According to WIR in the Nowy Tops poviat, rape is collected in half. The yield is within 2.5-4 t/ha, and the purchase price – 1950–2000 PLN/t. Winter barley is collected in 60 percent. The yield is from 4-8 t/ha with a purchase price of PLN 620-650/t. The mowing of winter wheat began, the yield of which is 5-8 t/ha. Barning yields within 3-5 t/ha. The purchase price is approx. 650 PLN/t.
Winter barley collections were completed in the Leszno poviat. The yields range from 8 to 10 t/ha, and the current price is at the level of 650-700 PLN/t. In 95 percent Winter rape was collected, which yielded between 3.5-4.5 t/ha at the current price of 2060-2100 PLN/t. Jare's barley harvest was also started, but, as the vortex emphasized, progress is limited due to too much humidity.
Rapeseed, face and seed barley and seed grasses were collected in the Konin poviat. The harvested crops are relatively good, in the feed cereals. However, there is a concern for the quality of the so -called bread cereals.
The advancement of harvest work in the Kalisz poviat is estimated at about 33 percent. cereal crop area. Heavy rains from recent days have suspended most of the field work. In places, fields are flooded, and both soil and plants require a longer time to dry. The resumption of harvest will be possible only after improvement of weather conditions. Winter barley harvests have already been completed. In most farms, very good results were recorded – the crops ranged from 6 to even 9 tons per hectare. Wheat, rye and oats are underway.
Purchase points in the poviat operate without interference, taking cereals according to the schedule. The vortex said that many farmers decide to stop sales, counting on improving prices in the coming weeks. Their current level is assessed as low and unprofitable for some farms, the chamber said.
In the Ostrów poviat, in some regions, the soils are fully soaked in water, which means that for a long time it will not be possible to enter the combine on the fields. On some cereal areas, water stands in the cavities, which can lead to the lodge of the field and the decrease in the quality of the grain. In many municipalities, especially on heavier soils, the harvest has not yet begun due to too high grain humidity.
The harvest of early potato varieties is already completed. The vortex said that buying prices are about 0.40 PLN/kg. – There is a real fear that these prices will still decrease further, which further worsens the profitability of production and increases the dissatisfaction of the growers – emphasized the Chamber.
The harvest in the Ostrzeszów and Kępiński poviats are halfway through. In both poviats, harvest progress is moderate. The yields are generally good in terms of quantity, but the deterioration of grain quality is observed, which translates into the price.
