Indian officials have said that the country will continue to buy oil from Russia despite the threat of penalties that US President Donald Trump said it will impose, reports New York Times and Reuters on Saturday.
Trump announced last month, in a post on Social Truth, that India will face additional penalties for the purchase of weapons and oil. On Friday, Trump told journalists that he has heard that India would no longer buy oil from Russia.
But two high -ranking Indian officials said there was no policy change, according to the New York Times article, who adds that an official explained that the government “did not give any instruction to oil companies” to reduce imports from Russia.

Later, Reuters informed that two government sources from New Delhi said that India will continue to buy Russian oil.
“There are long -term contracts. It is not so simple to stop buying more nights,” said one of the sources.
Reuters has previously reported that India state refineries have not bought oil from Russia last week, as the discounts decreased in July.
On July 14, Trump threatened 100% customs duties to buy oil from Russia, if Moscow does not conclude a peace agreement with Kiev. Russia is the main supplier of India, providing about 35% of the total importance.
