In one of the files in which he was involved, the current Minister of Culture, Andras Istvan Demeter, said in front of the judges that he is the victim of a “wrong system”. G4media He writes that the Minister of the UDMR has been involved, over time, in 4 criminal files, and in another case, in administrative litigation, the High Court of Cassation and Justice has established that he was in conflict of interest.

Andras Istvan Demeter was investigated for abuse in the service (two files), conflict of interest in continuous form, non-observance of the weapons and ammunition regime-this being the latest file, between 2020-2022. The minister has never been definitively convicted, according to G4Media.

In the file in which he was investigated for non -observance of the Andras Istvan Demeter weapons and ammunition regime he said he is the victim of a “system that is wrong, and does not recognize his mistake”. The file ended after the prosecutor decided to renounce the criminal prosecution, because, in his opinion, there was no “public interest in continuing the criminal prosecution of the deed.”

However, the Minister of Culture was obliged to teach the object for which the criminal prosecution had begun, a “mechanism – a lethal reserve with the Krico brand for a lethal hunting weapon”. Andras Istvan Demeter did not agree and challenged the decision. He motivated that the device is a “good personal property, acquired under the law, for some formal reasons.” However, the judges did not agree with the current minister and ordered the confiscation.

Sent to court for conflict of interest in continuous form, Andras Istvan Demeter escaped the file because the deed was decriminalized

In June 2015, the current Minister of Culture was sent to court for conflict of interest in continuous form, in an open file in 2013 at the Prosecutor's Office of Sector 1.

In this file, Andras Istvan Demeter was accused of having a public official (president of the Romanian Broadcasting Society) signed the payment of salary rights to another defendant – Ioan Răzvan Dincă, who was the counselor of the current minister. For his part, Dincă (who was also general director of the National Opera Theater, and later of the National Opera in Bucharest) turned to Demeter, through his PFA, money for “artistic benefits”, the current minister being also an actor.

Between 2015-2016 Andras Istvan Demeter was also suspect in two files opened by the Prosecutor's Office of Sector 1, both for abuse in the service. The two files were classified for the same reason: the deed was not provided by law.

The Minister's explanations: “It was impossible to avoid having various qualities”

Asked by G4media about the five files in which he was involved, Andras Istvan Demeter said that over time it was not “comfortable everyone”.

“Certainly, in more than three decades of activity in management and/or administration, I was not comfortable. It was impossible to avoid having various qualities (from time to time even procedural) in various civil, administrative or even criminal files,” said the minister.
