Terminal in Gdynia – a port of strategic importance
The container terminal in Gdynia was established in 2005, when Hutchison Ports leased post -camp areas at the Bulgarian quay. The lease agreement is valid until 2089.
The importance of the terminal increased especially after the controversial incident from 2023, when the American transport ship MV Cape Ducato, transporting military equipment, did not receive permission to moor at the terminal quay. Although the official reason for the decision was not given, the event aroused serious concerns about the safety of port infrastructure, especially since GCT is only a few hundred meters from the area of transhipment of weapons supply for Ukraine.
In response to these events, the terminal was entered in 2024 on the List of Critical Infrastructure by the Government Security Center.
