Siemens Gamesa will provide turbines for the BC-Wind project


On Tuesday, Ocean Winds announced the signing of the SG 14-236 wind turbine supply agreement and the provision of service services that were considered key to the investment in the Baltic Sea.
– The choice of Siemens Games as a supplier is not only an investment in advanced technology, but also a step in the adaptation of the Polish coast to the needs of renewable energy – he said, quoted in a message sent through the Ocean Winds, managing director of the company in Poland Kacper Kostrzewa.

Up to 15 MW of power
The scope of the contract includes the supply of 26 turbines with a unit power of 14 MW, which thanks to the Power Boost function can reach up to 15 MW. As stated, turbines have a certificate of compliance with international IECRE safety and quality standards.
Port of Gdańsk will play a key role as a logistic project base. Turbines will be installed using advanced equipment belonging to the Cadeler company, which will use the O-Class unit for transport and installation of components.
The BC-Wind project, the implementation of which assumes 390 MW reaching 23 km north of Brzeg in the area of the municipalities of Kroków and Choczewo in the Pomeranian Voivodeship. A farm with a total area of nearly 91 sq m is to provide electricity for around 488 thousand. households in Poland.
Pete Geddes, head of the BC-Wind project, pointed out that the choice of a technological partner was preceded by an in-depth economic analysis and experiences gained from the implementation of the Moray West project in Great Britain.

“The installed solutions not only ensure operational efficiency, but thanks to comprehensive service guarantee the reliability of the farm's operation throughout its operation,” Geddes emphasized.
The BC-Wind project is one of the priority stages of maritime development of wind energy in Poland. The investment belonging to the Ocean Winds is part of the nationwide pursuit of energy transformation and diversification of energy sources.
Ocean Winds, founded in 2019 as an EDP Renewables and Engie joint undertaking, has nearly 19 GW of the gross power installed. The company conducts activities around the world, promoting the development of marine wind energy as one of the pillars of global energy transformation.
