Great Britain is ready to fight in the Pacific in the event of a conflict for Taiwan

The British Defense Minister John Healey assured that Great Britain is ready to fight in the Pacific if there is a conflict for Taiwan, “Telegraph” said on Sunday. According to the media, it is the most firm comment of a British politician about possible involvement in war in this region.

Asked by the newspaper about the possible action by the British side to support Taiwan at the time of the potential escalation of the conflict on the part of China, Heaaley replied that if such a situation occurred, “As it was done in the past, Australia and Great Britain will fight together“.

– Our troops practice together, and being more ready to fight, we are more effective in deterrent (enemy) – said the British minister, who is currently in the port of Darwin in northern Australia, where military maneuvers are underway with the participation of troops, including from the USA.

Healey stipulated that he was speaking “generally”, emphasizing that Great Britain would prefer all disputes in the Indo-Pacific region to be solved peacefully and diplomatically. “We provide peace by force, and our strength comes from our allies,” he said. He also added that his speech does not mean that there would be any formal changes in the UK's approach to Taiwan.

As part of international Talisman Sabre exercises, for the first time in almost 30 years, the British shock group moored in Australia, headed by the flagship ship, HMS Prince of Wales aircraft carrier. It is also the first time the aircraft carrier from outside the USA takes part in annual Australian maneuvers.

On Saturday, Great Britain and Australia signed the Treaty of Geelong, a new 50-year agreement that strengthens their participation in the three-sided group Aukus, which also belongs to the US. Both countries have undertaken to build a new class of atomic submarines.
