Suspected of preparing an assassination is currently a 23-year-old Swedish citizen Alexander H., who was 17 at the time of detention. He was arrested at his home in Strassen near the city of Luxembourg. On his computer, investigators found a document entitled “Fun Time for Eurovision 2020-for A Better and Less over-accepting Future” (“time to play with Eurovision 2020-to a better and less tolerant future”), containing a detailed plan of the attack. His co -author was to be an unidentified citizen of the Netherlands.

According to documents, the perpetrators planned, among others:

  • poisoning participants with cyanide or roar,
  • spraying chlorine by ventilation systems,
  • blocked evacuation outputs,
  • Attack using explosives.

The police secured chemicals and rocket prototypes in the apartment.

The assassination did not take place because Eurovision 2020 was canceled due to Covid-19 pandemic. The event took place a year later in a limited formula, also in Rotterdam.

The Dutch prosecutor's office and NPO – public broadcaster and co -organizer of the event – expressed the surprise, informing that they were not informed about the investigation. The then eurovizia manufacturer Siete Bakker also admitted that he knew nothing about the threat.

According to Luxembourg investigators, Alexander H. was a member of the neo -Nazi, paramilitary organization The Base, recognized as a terrorist group by the European Union, Great Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The organization was founded by Rinaldo Nazzaro, a former employee of the FBI and a Pentagon, who later moved to St. Petersburg, Russia, from where he manages its activity according to the media.

As revealed, former members of The Base in an interview with Vice News, Nazzaro may have connections with Russian special services. In February 2025, after the nomination of Kasha Patel for the position of the FBI director by President Donald Trump, The Guardian journal informed about the increased recruitment activity of The Base in the United States. Shortly afterwards, subsequent accusations of former members appeared suggesting that Nazzaro is to be a Russian spy.

Alexander H. was also planned to plan attacks on energy infrastructure in Sweden and the Netherlands. The prosecutor's office in Luxembourg demanded 12 years in prison. The verdict is to be made in November.
