On Thursday, a ceremony took place at the Presidential Palace, during which President Andrzej Duda made changes in the composition of the Council of Ministers. The president appointed Waldemar Żurek to the office of the Minister of Justice, replacing Adam Bodnar in this position.

– Because I see that such a danger of losing democracy is something really serious, I will do everything to restore the law -abiding state, to restore the principles of the Tri -Holy Tri -Power and at the same time to follow the Constitution and all international treaties, which are associated with Poland – emphasized Żurek, preaching a statement after the ceremony of swearing in front of the building of the Ministry of Justice.

The minister also warned – as he said – those politicians who threaten independent judges and independent prosecutors and try to intimidate them. – Today we do not have the National Council of the Judiciary that would cover such persons with constitutional protection, which is why I will react to such situations with all firmness – he announced.

– I appeal to those who try to direct such threats; They will not be released by amphibian – said the head of MS.

He also assured that the beginning of his office would be associated with very intensive work, which is why he asked for patience related to the provision of information about his activities. He expressed the hope that the next meeting with the media would take place in a week – next Thursday – to be able to answer questions. – I do not want to talk about the intentions, because “after the deeds you will meet them”; I would prefer to inform about the specific decisions made by the Minister of Justice – the Żurek pointed out at the same time.

– A very difficult and hardworking road awaits us. Very many institutions in Poland have been destroyed, institutions that give citizens freedom. It is very important to me to restore these institutions – emphasized Żurek.

At the same time, the minister thanked the judges, independent prosecutors and “all citizens who, in difficult times, when the constitution was broken and destroyed state institutions and free media, were able to oppose it.” “I would like them to hope,” he added.

Just before the meeting with journalists in front of the MS building, the new head of the ministry laid flowers at the plaque commemorating the victims of the Stalinist security service. In the basement of the current MS building at Aleje Ujazdowskie in Warsaw, there were prison goals of the former Ministry of Public Security.

– On this first day of office I wanted to pay tribute to the heroes of the fight against authoritarianism – Żurek emphasized. As he noted, it is necessary to “remind you of these heroes, because those figures that were tormented in the basement of this building and gave their lives for Poland's freedom, they were our heroes, people who fought with authoritarianism, first German, fascist, and later Stalinist.”

– I am a man raised in a patriotic family and democratic values are extremely important to me – said the head of MS.

He emphasized that “authoritarianism, also in Europe, takes various forms today and it is not that democracy is given to us once and for all – we must fight for it, we must cultivate it.” (PAP)
