Virgil Ghiță (27) arrived in Germany this summer, at Hannover 96team of Bundesliga 2, following a transfer from Krakowin exchange for the amount of 1 million euros.
Ghiță was presented at the end of June at Hannover 96, a team with a contract valid on 3 seasons. Virgil Ghiță thus becomes the third Romanian player in Hannover's history, after Marcel Răducanu and Gică Popescu.
Virgil Ghiță, about Gică Hagi: “It's like the second father for me!”
Virgil Ghiță gave a large interview for the German newspaper Bild. The Germans wrote about Ghiță that it is one of Hannover's great hopes for returning to Bundesliga in the next season. Also, the journalists from Bild also mentioned the relationship of Ghiță with Gică Hagi and Gică Popescu, the two leaders from Farul, saying that the two are the largest supporters of the “new star from Hannover”.
In this interview, Ghiță spoke, among other things, about the relationship with Hagi and Popescu. The Romanian defender revealed that before he transferred to Hannover, he discussed with Popescu, being advised to go to this club. It should be mentioned that Gică Popescu ended his career in Hannover in 2003.
Also, about Gică Hagi, his former coach at Farul Constanța said he sees him as “the second father”, as he learned a lot from him every day at workouts.
“My name is the same as Virgil Van Dijk's. He is one of my models as a footballer, but it's only the number two – after Sergio Ramos.
In childhood, of course I was a fan of Gheorghe Popescu, who ended his great career in 2003 at Hannover 96. He was my president at the Constanta Lighthouse. I talked before the transfer to Hannover, he told me a lot of good things. He will definitely come to visit me here.
In Constanța I played under his command as a coach. It was like a second father to me! I learned so much from Hagi – every day, every training: about football, but also about life, about respect and collegiality.
Hagi learned from Johan Cruyff, and I (laughs). Today I can say that many of the things I know and I can do as a footballer I have learned from him. Many of them were fulfilled. He helped me to develop this mentality and become a winning type. ”
What Ghiță aims at Hannover
“I always want to get as much as possible. I have signed a three -year contract with Hannover and I want to achieve maximum success with the team during this period, and in the end, in the best case, to play with 96 in the Bundesliga.
In Krakow I had the opportunity to wear it several times as deputy. I am 27 years old now and I have experience. And in Hannover I have to take responsibilities on the field and be a reference player. But the banner is not decisive in this regard. In addition, I am a new player and I want to integrate first. ”

I was received incredibly well, I see friendly faces every day. I have a very good feeling about our team. We have already established some good relationships, but of course we need a little patience until everything is stabilized. In any case, I can hardly wait for the new season, the fans, our stadium and the other stadiums, the atmosphere and, of course, football. ”
Ghiță described the atmosphere of the team and the style of the Titz coach in comparison with that of Hagi
“I joked with Benji Källman about whom the coach would be. Even though he has a different opinion, I say I would be the best coach (laughs), because I learned from the best, in my opinion, namely Hagi. However, I do not want to become a coach after I will end my career – I see each other, I see more.
Our style of play under the leadership of Christian Titz is the one I like. Possession of the ball, pressing, the availability to run – that's how I grew up in Romania under Hagi's leadership. It should fit well here at Hannover.
I joked with Benny Källman who would be the best coach. Even if he has another opinion, I say: I would be the best coach (laughs). Because I learned from the best, namely Hagi. However, I do not want to become a coach after I end my career. I see every day that the coaches work twice as much as we, the players (laughs). “
Virgil Ghiță still dreams of the World Cup: “Mircea Lucescu is satisfied with me and congratulated me for the transfer to Hannover”
“We are currently in the third place. But I think we still have good chances to qualify for the World Cup. We have a good team, but we have to overcome Austria and Bosnia. I hope I can help the team even more so far. The national coach is satisfied with me and I congratulated me on the transfer to Hannover.”
“I found a house with a garden, but at the moment I am alone in Hannover. My wife Sandra, who is pregnant, is in Romania, and in August we will have the second child. In September we will all move to Hannover, so she is planned. Our older son, Karim, has three and a half years, and I will not play for hours. (laughs).
Ghiță was officially presented at Hannover on June 28
Former captain from Farul Constanța ticked in Poland after 108 matches. During this time, Ghiță scored 12 goals and offered 3 decisive passes.
“I am very happy to be here and play now for Hannover 96. A new road is built here, and I am excited that I can contribute with my part from now.

Overall, after the discussions, I was quickly convinced that it will be a very good match. As always, I will give everything on the field to help my team as best as possible.
I look forward to the moment when I will step for the first time in this impressive stadium and see the supporters in the stands, ”said Virgil Ghiță, according to the official website of the club.
Virgil is an extremely fast and solid central defender. He has a very good mentality, defends aggressively and tries to create and push the game before even when he is in possession. With these qualities, it perfectly suits the profile we need for our game style. In addition, he wants to be a leader. As an experienced and international Romanian player, it also brings the necessary maturity. We are delighted that we can strengthen the defense with it
