The employees of the Chinese social network Tiktok in Berlin went on strike on Wednesday to protest about the dismissal plans of about 150 people, reports the EFE agency, taken over by Agerpres.
According to a statement from the Verdi Union, the largest organization of workers in the service sector in Germany, a one -day strike was a protest against the company's intentions to replace about 150 employees from the Berlin headquarters with artificial intelligence and the services of a subcontractor.
Tiktok employees “fight for correct conditions in an industry that systematically outsources responsibilities,” said the head of Verdi, Kathlen Eggerling.
The workers threatened by redundancies are, among others, those in the Department of Content Moderation, ie those who examine and filter sensitive and very harsh videos and images, such as “sexual violence against children, suicide, terrorist propaganda and excessive violence,” explains the union.
He accuses Tiktok of trying to “dodge from any social responsibility and refuse negotiations.”
According to union sources, Tiktok has about 400 employees in Berlin.
