“This is abnormal.” Zelensky commented on a scandal with NABU


Zelensky noted that on this day he met with the director of the National Anti -Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Semen Krivonos, the prosecutor of the specialized anti -corruption prosecutor’s office (CAP) Alexander Klimenko, Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko and the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Vasily Malyuk.

“Different challenges. We discussed all this. Anti -corruption infrastructure will work. Only without Russian influences – we need to clear everything. And justice should become more. Of course, NABU and SAP will work. And it will be important that the General Prosecutor is configured that the inevitability of punishment is really ensured for those who go against the law. And this is what is really necessary for Ukraine,” Zelensky said.

He emphasized that “things that lay should be investigated.”

“For years, officials who have fled from Ukraine for some reason live abroad-in very pleasant countries and without legal consequences. This is not normal. There is no rational explanation, why are criminal proceedings for billions“ hang ”for years. And there is no explanation why Russians can still receive information that they need. It is important that without Russians,” the president said.



In the appeal, Zelensky did not comment on the signing of the Law on Restrictions for NABU and SAP, as well as the related protests.

Context

July 21, the SBU and the office of the Prosecutor General began verification regarding compliance with CAP legislation on state secret, and also held in different regions of Ukraine more than 70 searches for NABU employees. Parts of them are charged with state treason, illegal trade with an aggressor country, corruption actions.

On July 22, the Verkhovna Rada adopted bill No. 12414, which involves the expansion of the powers of the Prosecutor General, including in relation to criminal proceedings engaged in NABU and SAP. The law on the same day signed Zelensky. The document was published in the official publication of the Rada, it has already entered into force.

The anti -corruption bodies warned that the Prosecutor General would gain access to all NABU cases, will have the right to give instructions to detectives, and will be able to close the investigation at the request of the protection party. In the CAP and NABU, they argue that at the last moment the editors were made in the text of the bill, which “actually destroy the independence” of the SAP and NABU. The people's deputy from the Voice Yaroslav Zheleznyak stated that NABU and SAP “would turn into” wedding generals “in fact.

In the evening in several cities of Ukraine, protests against the law began.
