The Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban arrived at the Victoria Palace on an informal visit to Bucharest, meeting for the first time with the new Prime Minister in Bucharest, Ilie Bolojan. The UDMR leader, Kelemen Hunor, also participates in the meeting that started at 21.00.
The Romanian government announced the meeting between the two prime ministers will take place in the form of a working person. The spokesman for the Executive in Bucharest, Ioana Dogioiu. On Tuesday, in a press conference, that in the meeting will be addressed topics on the collaboration between the two countries.
“There will be an informal meeting tomorrow night between Prime Minister Viktor Orban and Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan at the request of Prime Minister Viktor Orban. An informal meeting in which topics will be discussed on the collaboration between the two countries,” Dogioiu said on Tuesday.
Orban's third meeting in Bucharest
Orban will be in this week in Romania on the occasion of the 34th edition of the “Tusvanyos” Summer University, which officially opens on Wednesday. The Hungarian prime minister is about to hold his traditional speech on Saturday.
The Hungarian prime minister said, in an interview for the Krónika portal online, broadcast at the beginning of this month, that he wants to discuss as soon as possible with the new president of Romania, Nicuşor Dan.
The informal meetings between Viktor Orban and his Romanian counterparts before his presence at the “Tusvanyos” Summer University tends to become a tradition, after Orban had similar meetings with Marcel Ciolacu in 2023 and 2024. In 2023, the two had a “private lunch” in Bucharest. “This is the beginning of a beautiful friend,” Viktor Orban wrote on Facebook, posting a photo with Ciolacu.
In 2024, Orban and Ciolacu met for a breakfast, at Vila Lac 1, one of the topics discussed then being the support from Hungary of Romania's complete accession to the Schengen area, given that then Budapest held the rotary presidency of the EU Council.
“We have agreed to start the feasibility studies on carrying out a bilateral fanion project-Budapest-Bucharest high-speed railway, a strategic project, of regional interest, with impact on the railway networks in the Central Europe region,” said Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu in a Facebook post.
