A great discovery in the Baltic. The German ministry reacts with reserve

Central European Petroleum (CEP) announced on Monday about the large discovery of oil with Wolin East 1 (WE1) drilling opening, made in the Baltic Sea, about 6 km from Świnoujście.

The president of CEP ROLF SKOAR announced in an interview with PAP Biznes that Central European Petroleum begins the search for Polish and international oil and gas extraction partners from Wolin's license.

It is estimated that the discovered Wolin East deposit contains 22 million tons of mining hydrocarbons in the form of oil and condensate and 5 billion cubic meters of commercial quality gas. The total amount of resources of Wolin concession includes over 33 million tons of extraction oil and condensate and 27 billion cubic meters of commercial quality gas.

In the opinion of the President, CEP Rolf Skaar, the oil and natural gas deposit Wolin East is the largest conventional hydrocarbon deposit discovered so far in Poland and one of the largest conventional oil deposits discovered in Europe in the last decade.

Germany is full of fear after discovering gas in the Baltic. “We are afraid of our paradise place”

The DPA agency informs that the German authorities remain in contact with Polish offices and hope that the assessment of the impact of possible environmental extraction will be a cross -border nature.

The daily “Die Welt” wrote that-according to the Land authorities of the Mecklenburg-Front Homes-the deposit is partly located on the territory of Germany. It is probably about the Heringsdorf deposit, discovered during the East Germany. The quality of the raw material was then considered too low to start mining. The owner of the rights to the German part of the deposit is Neptun Energy Deutschland GmbH.

CEP information caused anxiety in Mecklenburg-Pomerania. -Our future is not crude oil from the Baltic Sea, but energy from the sun, wind and biomass-said Till Backhaus, the minister of climate, agriculture and environmental protection of Mecklenburg-Pomerania-Front, quoted by “Die Welt. The SPD politician warns against “backward climate policy, which conflicts with the interests of the environment and tourism on the German side.”

The mayor of Heringsdorf on the island of Uwnom, Laura Isabelle Marisken, also expressed concern. – Because of the planned oil production, we are afraid of our paradise place. This would be a serious interference in the place where we live – said Mariksen, cited by the daily Bild.
