Two parents were charged after showing up with their four-month baby at a hospital in France, and the child was positively tested at cocaine, BFMTV reports, quoted by News.ro.
The incident took place on Friday, July 18, at the hospital in Béziers. According to the quoted source, the child presented and injuries that required medical examination.
During the consultation, the father fled with the baby, but the child was then brought back and examined. The toxicological tests revealed the presence of cocaine, but it is not known how it could ingest it, BFMTV says.
Parents, known as toxicants, were detained on Friday. In the end, both were charged. The father was placed in preventive arrest, and the mother under judicial control, with the prohibition to see her child. The boy was entrusted to the Child Protection Service (ASE).
The authorities have opened a judicial investigation to determine whether the baby's exposure to cocaine was accidental or resulted from serious negligence or mistreatment.
