Several thousand people participated on Saturday in the Iasi Pride March, an event dedicated to the LGBTQ+community. The participants gathered in front of the “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University, then started on the central streets of Iasi, writes News.ro.

The representatives of the Rise Out Association, organizing the event, said that this year people have gathered “not only to celebrate the progress made in Iasi in the last five years regarding the visibility, but also to continue their right to dignity.”

They claim that Iasi Pride has become “a common statement of survival and hope”, given that “over 40% of young LGBTQ have been harassed or agreed in school, families of same -sex do not benefit from legal protection, and gender identity is frequently politicized and stigmatized”.

The association says that “Iasi Pride is not a decorative parade, but a form of collective resistance”. “We are tired of being tolerated instead of being treated with respect. We want laws. We want inclusive education. We want safe public spaces. We want civil partnerships. We want a future in which we no longer live on the edge of society, but as an integrated part in our communities,” the members of the Rise Out Association said.

The march ended in front of the Palace of Culture in Iasi. Dozens of police and gendarmes were mobilized at the event, with no major incidents.
