Germany is preparing to expel the Syrians who committed crimes

Germany is also preparing to expel Syrian delinquencies and criminals, Berlin confirmed on Saturday, after the neighboring country Austria announced a first decision after several years.
The German Ministry of Interior “has given instructions to the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) to initiate the revocation” of the protection statutes “in terms of dangerous persons and Syrian delinquents,” said a ministry spokesman for France Presse, confirming information from the German public of the German publication.
According to the spokesman, the “serious crime commission excludes the recognition of a protection” or “can lead to the revocation of the protection granted”.
The coalition agreement between the Conservatives of the Chancellor Friedrich Merz and social-democrats provides for expulsions to Syria and Afghanistan, “starting with the criminals and persons considered a threat”, the same source recalls.
The ministry is “in contact with the competent Syrian authorities” to achieve this objective, says the spokesman.
A million Syrians live in Germany
Between January and May, Bamf opened over 3,500 potential dismissal procedures against Syrian citizens, the ministry also indicates in an answer to a parliamentary question.
The refugee status was withdrawn in 57 cases, and the subsidiary protection, an intermediate status, in 22 other cases, according to the same sources.
At the same time, about 800 Syrians, from a number of over 2,000 voluntary people, returned to the country in a help program funded by the German authorities.
Almost one million Syrians live in Germany, most arriving during the big migration wave of 2015-2016.
However, after the fall of President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, several European countries, including Germany and Austria, announced a suspension of asylum demand procedures in a significant growth of far right parties.
On Thursday, Austria announced the expulsion in his country of origin of a Syrian criminal, a premiere in the European Union in recent years.
Germany has been confronted in recent months with several deadly white weapon attacks, as well as jihadist motivation and extremely right -wing violence that brought security issues to the fore.
