France is fighting wolves. Emmanuel Macron: We have to knock more of them

– We will not let the wolves develop and enter [tam]where they compete with our activities – Macron said during a Thursday trip to Aveyron, referring to wolf attacks on farmers' breeding animals. – And that means that We must, as modestly be, to knock more of them.

He added that people who “come up with the rules and do not live with their animals in places where there are bears or wolves, They should spend two nights there'

In May, MEPs approved the application amending the European Union's habitat directive, Moving the wolf from the list of “strictly protected” species to “protected”. This will make it easier for farmers in the EU to shoot wolves that threaten their herds. The directive will enter into force on July 14, giving state until January 2027 to implement changes in national law.

This highly political emphasis was conducted by the center -right European People's Party as part of a campaign aimed at gaining the sympathy of farmers before last year's European elections. This became a personal project of the chairman of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, whose Dolly pony was killed by the wolf in 2022.

Ecological groups say that alleviating the principles of protection is an improper reaction.

Jean-David Abel, head of the French organization France Nature Envyronnement, in an interview with Franceinfo stressed that Macron “is involved in a unique level of populism, speaking completely false things”.
