Russia hit Kiev with drones in an attack that lasted all Thursday night, hurting at least 14 people, breaking the railway infrastructure and causing fires in buildings and cars throughout the city, authorities in the capital of Ukraine announced on Friday, according to Reuters.

After more than eight hours of air raid alerts and just before they were stopped at 5 in the morning, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that 12 of the wounded arrived at the hospital.

Damages were recorded in six of the ten districts of Kiev, on both sides of the Dnipro river, which crosses the city, and fallen drones have set a medical unit in the HolosiVskyi district, Klitschko wrote on the Telegram messaging application.

Ukrzaliznytsia, the largest carrier in the country, transmitted that the attack on Kiev had damaged the railway infrastructure in the city, which caused several passenger trains and caused delays.

Images posted on social networks have shown that numerous fires in the Ukrainian capital, covered by a thick smoke.

“The attacks do not stop”

Reuters witnesses heard the series of continuous explosions and shots in Kiev overnight, while the air defense units were trying to break down the drones.

Tymur Tkachenko, the head of the Kiev military administration, said on Telegram that many of the targets were housing.

“The attacks do not stop,” Tkachenko wrote on Telegram. “There are many targets above Kiev. We act against Russian drones in all districts,” he added.

This wave of attacks is only the most recent in a series of Russian air blows on Kiev, which have intensified in recent weeks and included some of the most deadly attacks on this city with three million inhabitants.

Zelenski hopes to talk to Trump on Friday

The US President Donald Trump said he had a telephone call with Vladimir Putin on Thursday, on Thursday that led to any progress in the efforts to end the Ukraine war, while the Kremlin reiterated that Moscow would continue to press to resolve the “deep causes” of the conflict.

The decision taken by Washington earlier this week to stop some essential weapons deliveries to Ukraine caused Kiev to warn that this measure will weaken its ability to defend itself against the intensification of air attacks and the advance on the battlefield.

Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski said on Thursday that he hopes to talk to Trump on the supply of American weapons.
