Hamas has accepted a proposal made by the United States on a cessation of fire in the Gaza strip, a Palestinian official told Reuters. Subsequently, the organization officially announced that it is willing to immediately start negotiations for the implementation of the armistice and reaching a peace agreement.
During the day, US President Donald Trump announced a “final proposal” for a 60 -day fire termination between Israel and Hamas, stating that he is waiting for a belligerent parties in the coming hours.
“The Hamas Movement has completed the internal consultations as well as the discussions with the Palestinian factions and forces regarding the last proposal of the mediators to stop the aggression against our people in Gaza. Until now, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not yet commented Trump's statements. So far, Netanyahu has repeatedly repeated that Hamas should be disarmed, a position that the group has refused to discuss.
Netanyahu is about to meet Trump in Washington during Monday. At the beginning of Friday, when Trump was asked if Hamas agreed with the proposed setting frame, the US president said: “We will know in the next 24 hours.”
Only in the last 24 hours, 138 Palestinians died in Israeli attacks, said officials from the Gaza Strip.
The war began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas made a surprise attack in the Israeli territory, killing around 1,200 people, most civilians, another 251 being taken hostage. About 20 of them are still in the hands of the organization.
The war of reprisals carried by Israel against Hamas devastated Gaza, a region that the group has been leading for almost two decades, but now only partially controls. The war caused the repeated relocation of the 2,000,000 inhabitants, as well as a large -scale hunger.
Over 57,000 Palestinians have been killed in the two years of fighting, most of them civilian, estimates local health authorities.
