The censorship motion against the European Commission led by Ursula von Der Leyen is to be debated on Monday and voted on Thursday, in the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The announcement was made on Wednesday night by MEP Gheorghe Piperea, the initiator of the motion.

“The semi-final is over, now the final follows. I did a bit of history. The pressures no longer matter,” Piperea wrote in a Facebook post, thanking the 78 MEPs who signed the document, especially to the Romanian colleagues-“all the sovereigns, 7 in total, plus soft”-and to the Polish delegation. He added that his team from Brussels “did a hard and tiring work”, but that “the final qualification” justified the effort.

The motion, which accuses the commission of lack of transparency and abuse in the management of the Covid-19 Pandemic, was initiated by Piperea, European MEP affiliated with the European Conservative and Reformists (ECR). It has met the necessary threshold of a tenth of the signatures of the MEPs – at least 72 – in order to be debated and voted in plenary, also transmits DPA, according to Agerpres.

The President on, Roberta Metsola, informed on Wednesday night on the leaders of the MEP groups about this evolution, notes the mentioned source.

If the motion passes, the current commission will have to resign in the block – the president and the 26 commissioners. Such a scenario is considered, however, unlikely, as it would require a double majority consisting of two thirds of the votes expressed and representing a majority of the 720 mandates in the European Parliament, adds DPA.
